News: Ebay Ban on Switchblades

Ebay's New Policy on Listing Switchblades

Switchblade knives are no longer permitted on eBay, regardless of the
length of the knife blade. Although past policy allowed switchblade knives
with a maximum blade length of 2 inches (or approx. 5 cm), this rule has
been very recently amended.

Interstate commerce of all
switchblades is prohibited by law. The Federal statute defines "interstate
commerce" and the term "switchblade" as follows:

(a) The term “interstate commerce” means commerce between any State,
Territory, possession of the United States, or the District of Columbia,
and any place outside thereof.
The term “switchblade knife” means any knife having a blade which
opens
automatically->
(1) by hand pressure applied to a button or other device in
the handle of the knife, or
(2) by operation of inertia, gravity, or both.

The sale of such items on eBay would infringe upon Federal
law so ebay is no longer allowing any switchblade to be listed and any current listings are being cancelled .
